Comedy Legends: Some with Pants, Some Without.
What the hell was I doing with my left arm here? I seem to be
squeezing Tommy Smothers by the hip with my right, but have a complete
aversion to even brushing against Dick Smothers. Why? When this photo
was taken Dick Smothers was telling me a story about how the musicians
union had originally tried to bring a stop to the use of the Moog
synthesizer on vinyl LPs. This topic was raised because I had asked
Tommy about liner notes he had written for a great Moog LP by Mort
Garson titled Electronic Hair Pieces.
It looks like I've just quickly talked Don Rickles into signing off on
some kind of nefarious business deal and he's just now realizing I've
ripped him off. My eyes are doing some demented Tom DeLay type of
thing here. Mr. Rickles was in a robe because this picture was taken
backstage right before the show, and as is the old comedian's
tradition, wasn't wearing any pants. The old comedy supserstition is
to not put on pants until the last moment before heading to the stage.
Labels: casinos, comedy, moog synthesizer, photography, smothers
brothers, stand-up, vinyl
