It was a Comedy?!?
Left with no good programs to watch on TV- no thanks to the writers'
strike (is it still on?), with no new episodes of our fave shows like
Grey's Anatomy, NCIS, CSI, etc.etc., and kind of tired watching reruns
of Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymund , we decided to make it a
'movie night' Friday night last week. Tony picked 'Shoot 'Em Up ' from
the nearby dvd rental shop . With Clive Owen in it ( really liked him
in Derailed with Jennifer Aniston), we were sure it was going to be a
real good kickass action flick. Just what we needed for a relatively
ho-hum week. The opening scene of the movie promised of exciting
things to come. A pregnant woman being chased by a suspicious looking
guy in a deserted alley. Just one look at the guy and you would know
he is up to no good. And Clive, sitting on the the sidewalk bench,
enjoying his very healthy snack of a carrot suspected just that. The
girl gets cornered. Man takes out gun. Was about to blow the girl's
brain out. (oooh, I should have warned you that there is going to be
some graphic violence in my blog today, sorry.) But wait, Clive comes
to the rescue and saves her. Phewwwww. Close call. Now, do you really
think I'm going to be such a spoiler and tell you what will happen
next? Sorry, can't do that. You will have to watch the movie yourself.
This much I can say though, this movie has an exceptional plot - an
organ harvest project gone awry, a very 'high-tech kind of gun'
trafficking, a presidential wannabe siding with the bad guys. And it
has Clive Owen. His accent - oh,mylord! Even though, in this movie you
would almost think he wants to be Bugs Bunny, he meant business. Just
see what he did to the bad guys. Paul Giamatti's character is so
obnoxious you would really want to see the last of him in the movie.
Monica Bellucci reminds me of Rufa Mae Quinto, and provided the eye
candy aspect of the movie. She has a fantastic bed scene with Clive ,
and by fantastic , I mean FANTASTIC.
Other FANTASTIC scenes include aerial gunfight, 'one man vs an army ,
one man winning', and other scenes which escape me at the moment.
By far , the most enjoyable part of the movie is the last scene where
a group of armed men tried to rob the diner where Monica works as a
waitress. This part convinced me that the movie was an attempt at
comedy , packaged as an action movie.
Over all, it was okay and it sure did make our Friday night much less
ho-hum.
